ABOUT THE ZIMBABWEAN ARTIST

WILLIAM MWALE

William Mwale, born to parents of Malawian descent in Zimbabwe, spent his childhood in Botswana. He traveled throughout Southern Africa with his family at a young age. Nyangu Chodola nurtured his artistic talent. His passion for wildlife greatly influenced his early paintings, but he later gravitated toward portraiture. Mwale creates art using acrylics, oils, and mixed media. He is a Plettenberg Bay Arts Association member and currently lives and works in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

In 2015, Mwale held his first solo exhibition at La Galleria in Lilongwe, Malawi, where all 25 of his paintings sold out on the opening night. From 2014 to 2017, he exhibited at the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi Arts Festival. In 2018, he received the La Galleria award for best portrait artist in Malawi.
